Santa Ana Sites #18: Roomful of Teeth

Santa Ana Sites is pleased to announce Grammy Award-winning vocal project, Roomful of Teeth will perform the Pulitzer Prize winning composition, Partita for 8 Voices as part of a full-length program on Friday, April 28 at 8:15 p.m. at Church of the Messiah.  An eight-member ensemble dedicated to reimagining the expressive potential of the human voice, Roomful of Teeth is an insatiable musical force to be reckoned with.
 
Trained by vocal masters from across the globe, Roomful of Teeth is both masterful and innovative. With a style range that spans Tuvan throat singing, Broadway belting, Persian classical, and Death Metal growl, the group’s vocal acrobatics are tempered with exquisite technique and moving creativity.
 
The ensemble will perform a full program for their Santa Ana Sites debut that includes Partita for 8 Voices, vocal composition by 34-year-old American composer and Roomful of Teeth vocalist, Caroline Shaw. The piece won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013, making Shaw the youngest recipient of the award to date.
 
Roomful of Teeth will take full advantage of the acoustics in the Church of the Messiah, Orange County’s oldest operating church.  Located in historic downtown Santa Ana, Church of the Messiah is a multi-cultural, inclusive, progressive Episcopal church deeply committed to supporting the diverse needs of our local community.  The red turreted church is Orange County Historic Landmark #03, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. About Roomful of Teeth
Founded in 2009 by artistic director and member, Brad Wells, Roomful of Teeth is North Adams, Massachusetts. The group is currently comprised of Estelí Gomez, Martha Cluver, Eliza Bagg, Virginia Warnken, Steven Bradshaw, Thann Scoggin, Dashon Burton, and Cameron Beauchamp. Past projects include The Colorado, a music-driven documentary film that explores water, land and survival in the Colorado River Basin. Past projects also include collaborations with NOW Ensemble, Kanye West and the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), performances with the Seattle Symphony featuring Luciano Berio's Sinfonia, appearances at new music festivals in the US, Mexico and Canada, and partnerships with over a dozen higher education institutions across the country.
